Bungendore Park was gazetted in 1897, originally as a timber reserve. This remnant piece of bushland covers 498 hectares and is used for research purposes and field studies because it is home to 350 plant species and 160 animal species. Bungendore means "Place of Gum Blossom". Access to the park is from Albany Highway or Admiral Road. We missed the turnoff from Albany Highway to the northern Dryandra Drive carpark so ended up at the Admiral Road carpark where we had stopped

This is a great trail for the kids as it is short but interesting. Djidi-djidi is a Noongar name for the Willie Wagtail and whilst we didn't see any of these on our hike we could hear lots of birds in the bush around us. With a few hours to spare we decided to explore the Bushland Nature Trail in Kings Park. This trail is a 900m loop taking about 30 minutes to walk. Parking is available at the Botanic Garden car park off Forrest Drive or the nearby DNA Tower car park. There are toilet facilities at the Botanic Garden car park and vast green spaces for picnics directly across the road. The Trail can also be accessed from the Pines car park on Lovekin Drive. A wildflower walk through Landsdale Park mid August revealed a multitude of gorgeous flowering plants. Exploring the bush trails for wildflowers at a slow pace this walk took about 2 hours but at a faster pace you could easily make it around in less than an hour and still stop to see lots of amazing plants.
