Sculpture @ Bathers Beach - Manjaree -Fremantle
In February (2020) Bather's Beach in Fremantle hosted the Sculpture at Bather's Beach exhibition. Although on a smaller scale than Cottesloe's Sculptures by the Sea there were still plenty of original artworks to see on the beach and around nearby Kidogo Arthouse. We entered Bather's Beach via the Old Whaler's Tunnel under the Round House. You can read about the history of shipwrecks and whalers as you pass through. Bather's Beach is a small beach but there were plenty of s

The Castaways Sculpture Awards Exhibition is a celebration of sustainability and creativity as artists use a variety of recycled and repurposed materials to create a wide range of sculptures which are exhibited on the Rockingham Beach Foreshore and Boardwalk every year in October. This was a wonderful way to discover the delights of Rockingham Foreshore and Beach! Castaways also includes a maquette and small sculpture exhibition held indoors. Schools are also involve

York - A Day in the Country
We ventured out to York in 2019 during the York Festival (late September to mid October) to catch the Wara Art Trail. It is a lovely drive to York (97km from Perth) and depending on the time of year it can be verdant green (winter) glowing yellow (early spring when the canola is in flower), dull yellow (wheat harvest) or shades of brown (summer). The Wara Art Trail showcases spectacular larger than life straw sculptures. In 2019 the sculptures depicted a Murray River Cod

Perth City Farm - East Perth
Perth City Farm was established in 1994 when a degraded, contaminated site was transformed into an urban farm where people can learn about sustainable living. The half hectare site lies alongside the railway lines in East Perth. As well as hosting tours, workshops and environmentally friendly events it is also a wedding venue but the reason we went along was for the Saturday morning fresh produce market and to investigate the recycling station. Perth City Farm sits right a

Applecross Jetty and Jacaranda Festival - Melville Water Riverpark Trail
On a weekend late in November the Rotary Jacaranda Festival Weekend is on in Applecross, celebrating the magnificent flowering Jacaranda trees with a fabulous market. Parking can be an issue as this is a popular event and some parking costs $10 a car so we chose to walk in to the festival eliminating the need to park. We started our walk at Ardross, parking at Troy Park (we did have to park on the edge as a cricket game was in progress at the club and the parking bays were

Toodyay - A Day in the Country
It is always enjoyable going for a weekend drive to the country. Toodyay, just over an hour outside of Perth is a lovely country town with plenty of character. I regularly travel to Toodyay to visit family and always enjoy the drive, noticing how the different seasons affect the landscape. I prefer the drive along Muchea East Road off the Great Northern Highway. This becomes Chittering Road and then turn right at Julimar Road. This is a very pretty drive through rolling h
