The Yange Kep Bidi, (translation Wetland Trail) lies on Whadjuk Noongar land and meanders around various wetlands located between Claremont and Galup - Lake Monger. The natural bushland provided a source of food for Indigenous groups who lived in and around this area. A day's reprieve in the middle of a heatwave had us heading to Jolimont to enjoy this short walk through the leafy green streets with a couple of playgrounds along the way. The trail starts with Number 1 - McCallum Avenue Precinct located opposite Daglish Railway Station (1924) on Stubbs Terrace. Karak (Black Cockatoo) Bidi (Trail) starts from Rosalie Park in Shenton Park and winds for 11.3 km through Claremont and then to the Derbal Yarigan (Swan River) at Paul Hasluck Reserve. Having to attend an appointment in Subiaco we decided to walk from Leederville Station along Cambridge Street to St John of God Hospital. It was only a 1.4km walk which would take about 20 minutes - much quicker than continuing on by train. As always we found lots of interesting discoveries along the way, which is why we like walking!
