Sandy Beach Playspace - Bassendean
This brand new playground opened late in 2022 and it is definitely one to add to your list! Located at Sandy Beach Reserve there is lots of parking. The reserve is quite large and is shaded by magnificent heritage trees. The reserve runs down to the edge of the Swan River and there are some little river beaches so bring the bucket and spades. The playground is quite spread out so you would need to move around with younger kids but the equipment is solid enough for you to join

Garvey Park - Ascot - Swan River Ramble
We finally completed the last section of the Swan River Ramble. Garvey Park is the start, or end point, for this fabulous trail which follows both banks of the Swan River (Derbarl Yerrigan) upstream of Windan Bridge. This trail is ideal for walking (in sections) as there is lots to see including stunning river scenery. It is also ideal for a bike ride as the trail covers almost 25km in total and cycling will allow you to cover more distance while still allowing you to stop at

Ashfield Flats - Bassendean - Swan River Ramble
The City of Bassendean has three Wicked Walks. One covers the historical town of Bassendean, one covers the parklands of Eden Hill and the third covers the wetland sanctuary of Ashfield Flats. After a wet stormy morning the sun came out to shine and tempted us outside to explore the 2.6km Ashfield Flats Trail. You can start the walk at either end with limited parking bays off Ashfield Parade or a much larger parking area at Sandy Beach Reserve. We parked under the mature

Maylands Peninsula with Maylands Waterland
This is a loop walk so you can start at a number of places. Limited car parking is available at Peninsula Farm or at the small shopping centre where Noggos Kitchen and Coffee is situated. Larger car parks are available at Maylands Golf Course, Maylands Foreshore, Clarkson Reserve or Tranby Reserve. We started our walk from Peninsula Farm at Wu-rut Woorat, land of the Wadjuk people for thousands of years before European Settlement. The entire Maylands peninsula was granted

Freshwater Park - Ascot Waters - Hidden Gems
Ascot Waters is a lovely residential development nestled on the banks of the Swan opposite Ascot Racecourse. We had come here to walk the Kuljak Island Trail but had to explore further when we saw how lovely this area is. Entrance to Ascot Waters is off Garrett Road at either Waterway Crescent to the north or Resolution Drive to the south. Both intersections are marked by a large white racing horse so you can't miss them! Where you start and finish your walk will depend on

Baigup Wetlands, Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary, Riverside Gardens - Bayswater - Swan River Ramble.
It was an overcast day with rain forecast but we grabbed our rain jackets and set off from Noggos Kitchen and Coffee on Peninsula Road in Maylands. We headed along Wall Street and then Swan View Terrace until we found the entrance to the Baigup (Place of Rushes) Wetlands. A shared path runs through these lovely wetlands (check accessibility after winter rain) and there are some lovely views across to Kaljuk (Black Swan) Island. Along the way you might spot Eric as this wa
