The Bilya (River) Walk Track follows the Gulgulga Bilya (Avon River) from Duidgee Park in Toodyay township to Nardie Cemetery on the Toodyay-Northam Road. The track is 5.6 km each way - over 11 km return but you can do a shorter walk by accessing the track from several mid way points. This beautiful reserve is tucked away at the back of Gidgegannup on Wooroloo Brook. You can access it by turning off Toodyay Road onto Reen Road and travelling 8.5km to the reserve which will be on your left. There is a sign at the entrance to the reserve but it is angled so is easy to miss. The track in to the reserve is red dirt and single lane so you may have to pull over to pass another car on the short road in - easy with a sedan but perhaps more problematic in a 4WD.

We set off to explore the Koondoola Sensory Walk on the first day of the Noongar season of Djilba (early August). We had previously attended a WA Wildflower Society guided walk around the southern section of the bushland (see below) and were keen to see what the Sensory Walk had in store. Allen Park is a pocket of coastal bushland in Swanbourne, classified by the National Trust for it's high conservation value. It includes a number of sports grounds as well as 8 ha of bushland surrounding Melon Hill. Some time ago we walked the Jenna Biddi Yorga along Blackwall Reach from Point Walter to Bicton Baths continuing on along the river to Wauhop Road at Jerrat Drive. The City of Wanneroo organises yearly guided walks for this section of the Yaberoo Budjara Heritage Trail led by local Noongar, Derek Nannup. We last walked the Wunanga Trail way back in 2017 and were pleasantly surprised by it's quiet beauty when we walked it again in 2025. One sunny morning with rain forecast we set out to explore the Yaberoo Budjara Heritage Trail from Burns Beach Road. We regularly pass this trail and look at the dirt road going up the hill and think it looks a little boring but today we discovered that this road is an access road for vehicles and the trail starts on the western side of the Yaberoo Budjara sign. After walking the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail recently between Darlington and Glen Forrest we went back to explore the trail between Darlington and Boya. This section is only 2.1km each way so a round trip of just over 4 km which we completed in an hour. The trail is multi use so beware of cyclists. Jorgensen Park, situated on the old Kalamunda Golf Course, offers the best of both worlds.
