After exploring the Urban Art in South Fremantle and on another occasion exploring from the Omeo Wreck south to Woodman Point I felt we had to close the gap and explore north from the Omeo Wreck to South Beach. Previously at the Omeo Wreck I noticed there was a Noongar Tourist Trail which went between Socrates Park and the Port Coogee Marina so this was our starting point. The Nyungar Tourist Trail is located within an important traditional gathering place for the Nyungar people at Wardan Gepa Boodjaralup (the sea shore) at Port Coogee. The trail features Ngarkal (Seagull) Beach and The Lookout plus Kidogo Glass Artworks. The trail includes signage and audio that shares important Aboriginal stories in traditional Nyungar language. We couldn't really hear the audio as we were walking around so decided to listen later and fill in any gaps. Kidog

Noongar people camped at Gumap lighting fires (kaarla) at night on the riverbank. The men would catch fish (djidjit) amongst the rush beds and salt marshes and this site remains important to Noongar people today. Now known as Elizabeth Quay, Gumap has much to offer in the way of dining and entertainment options and is a wonderful place to wander around with family, friends or visitors. Within Perth City are numerous public art works reflecting the city's identity, both past and present. This trail includes a small sample or public art works between the CBD and Northbridge. The self guided trail will take up to two hours and you can join or depart the trail anywhere along the way. The city's free CAT buses intersect the route at various points. Mt Hawthorn has lots of urban art packed into a small area so is ideal for a quick art walk. With loads of cafes and eateries, not to mention the Paddington Ale House, along this strip of Scarborough Beach Road and the fabulous shady Braithwaite Park nature playground a short distance away this is a great option to fill half a day with nature and culture. We parked undercover at the Mezz and then walked out onto Flinders Street passing the colourful mural on the outside.

We finally completed the last section of the Swan River Ramble. Garvey Park is the start, or end point, for this fabulous trail which follows both banks of the Swan River (Derbarl Yerrigan) upstream of Windan Bridge. This trail is ideal for walking (in sections) as there is lots to see including stunning river scenery. The wreck of the Omeo is located about 40 metres off the coast north of Coogee Beach. It lies submerged in about 2-4 metres of water and is clearly visible from Omeo Park. We wandered through White Gum Valley on our way to find more street art after discovering all the magical street art in South Fremantle. As we wanted to explore Booyeembara Park as well we parked there and used it as our base. New Norcia is Australia's only monastic town and is still home to around 9 Benedictine Monks. Wireless Hill has a little bit of everything and really shines in Spring when the wildflowers are out. The surrounding bush is home to many varieties of wildflowers, including orchids which flower between July and November, so it is the perfect place to go on a wildflower hunt. We set off to explore the Koondoola Sensory Walk on the first day of the Noongar season of Djilba (early August). We had previously attended a WA Wildflower Society guided walk around the southern section of the bushland (see below) and were keen to see what the Sensory Walk had in store.
