The Railway Reserves Heritage Trail loops between Bellevue and Mt Helena with both a northern and southern trail. A wildflower walk through Landsdale Park mid August revealed a multitude of gorgeous flowering plants. Exploring the bush trails for wildflowers at a slow pace this walk took about 2 hours but at a faster pace you could easily make it around in less than an hour and still stop to see lots of amazing plants. The 3km Werrilyiup bush trail loops around Horse Swamp, a natural palusplain wetland that comes to life in the winter months, but is usually dry for the greater portion of the year. These kid friendly falls are very easy to access as they are just metres from Toodyay Road with the turnoff opposite the Noble Falls Tavern. The down side of the falls being so easy to access is that it can be very crowded especially in Spring so head out early or have a back up plan (Lake Leschanaultia is only 15 minutes away) and FR Berry Reserve is also close by. The Victoria Dam Trail is is a gentle 7.2km loop through lovely bush in Korung National Park with the added interest of the dam and it's history. This gem of a park is hidden around the freeway interchanges in Perth. From Elizabeth Quay Train Station it is about a 20 minute walk along Mounts Bay Road. This piece of bush behind the Craigie Leisure Centre is full of surprises. Easy access is by walking behind the leisure centre and through one of the gates into the Reserve (recommended access point for wheelchairs, prams or bikes). The walk I did was another Wildflower Society of WA guided walk with David Pike sharing his in depth knowledge of the natural environment we passed through. There are plenty of well marked trails on both sides of Elliott Road to explore without the need for a guide. For the moment exploring the more extensive southern part of the reserve will have to wait for another day. We returned to Mundaring for our mid winter bush walk. Previously we had tried to walk the Portagabra Track but due to a lack of information and maps we walked the O'Connor Trail instead. The Wetlands Walk Trail is a 2.6km loop trail around Loch McNess in Yanchep National Park. If you walk down the path from the McNess House Visitor's Centre to the lake you can turn right or left and follow the edge of the lake to find the trail.
